Charon Ushering the Dead

Charon's role in Greek Mythology is to carry the souls of the dead across the rivers... they only need to leave a coin (obolus) in their mouths as payment... otherwise, they're gonna be left to wander in the river banks for yeaaars.... or so the myth says....

The ferryman of the dead is one of my favorite characters in Greek myth. He has a job to do but it's interesting to me how he feels about the souls he carries, if he knew them, how he felt about them... I see him as someone who's dark and a bit scary but not grotesque.. so I chose to depict him this way, rather than the usual hideous old man....
