guardian's door

my submission to Neil Gaiman's A Calendar of Tales for the month of January. I already submitted this to Blackberry as 'turpentine soup' my usual nickname and I got a badge here on DA! amazing! how did they know? anyways, i called this "Yearglass" cuz i couldn't think of a title but now, i wanna call it 'guardian's door'...

anyway, this is about number twelve. he is one grain away from retirement and the nasty sea monster's trying to snatch him....
